Windows and cladding

Window reveals are machined from milled Lawson Cyprus timber and fitted to the doubled glazed joinery supplied by NZ Windows.
The gable ends are bevel-back weatherboard, also from Lawson Cyprus and finished with Sikkins Cetol HLS and Filter 7.

Hi Greg,

We used Lawson Cypress around our house in 1997 when we built. We milled a few trees on our site and had a front door , benchtops and some external battens made up. The external battens have lasted well without any treatment / coating at all and hence no rot.

The only neg. side is that the smell of it can be over bearing to some when used internally.

I be keen to see some internal upstairs pics if you have them AND to find out where you obtained your Cypress from. We may need a little more at some stage.

Cheers Jeff.

Your house is looking really good. The only thing I was concerned about Timbercrete was the lack of uniformity in the blocks but looking at yours they look very good - more like concrete blocks.
Have you found them to be straight and even?

Part of the character of Timbercrete blocks is the slight variation you get in individual blocks. We used the "Contemporary" series block which gives a cut stone block look. The finished result is a straight and even wall with distinct shadow lines. More care in the block laying is required compared to the likes of 200 series concrete blocks.
